My Story
I am a Wilson Fellow Associate Scientist at the Data Science, Simulation, and Learning Division at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. I am currently leading the Cosmic AI group. I also have a CASE appointment with the University of Chicago, and I am part of their Survey Science group.
Before this position, I was a postdoc at Fermilab, and before moving to the USA I worked as an Assistant Research Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade, and the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade.
I have received my PhD degree in 2016. My doctoral thesis “Contribution of Galaxies and Galaxy Clusters to the Diffuse Gamma-Ray Background” was done under the supervision of Professor Dr. Tijana Prodanović. I have also obtained my MSc (2011) and BSc (2010) degrees in astrophysics at the University of Belgrade.
I am a member of the Deep Skies Lab and LSST (Dark Energy Science Collaboration; Galaxies Collaboration; Informatics, and Statistics Collaboration).
My main research interests are artificial intelligence and machine learning in astrophysics and HEP, working with big data from simulations and astronomical surveys, studies of galaxies, galaxy clusters, and gravitational lensing. I am also interested in (but not actively working on these topics at the moment) astroparticle physics, high-energy cosmic-ray physics, nucleosynthesis, cosmochemistry, gamma-ray, and neutrino astronomy.
I also love working with students of all levels and I strive to teach them not only how to solve scientific problems, but also how to navigate the science world and job market, and how to leverage their current experiences to reach their career goals in or outside of academia.
